Chief Digital Officer
Laura is Chief Digital Officer at Citizens Advice. She leads Citizens Advice's digital strategy - transforming our digital advice content and redesigning our services to make it easier for everyone to get and give great advice. Laura also runs communications, helping Citizens Advice to use digital, design, events and the media to influence and engage people in change.
Laura joined Citizens Advice as Head of Policy Research, drawing on real-time data from the service to identify problems and find solutions to today's challenges. Before that she was at Nesta, working with research and programme teams to support innovation in public services and civil society, and worked in public policy at the RSA and Demos.
Senior Change Manager
Cat is a Senior Change Manager in the Digital Team. She joined Citizens Advice 2 years ago and has worked on a number of change projects including moving the organisation into the new office in Aldersgate and the introduction of the Pension Wise service.
Before joining Citizens Advice, Cat worked in a local authority where she was involved in the national Connect Digitally programme promoting online services to schools.
Chris is building a product team to create digital services that people love to use. He is keen to get new digital tools into users’ hands as soon as possible, and to make sure these new products focus on users' needs.
Prior to joining Citizens Advice Bureau, Chris worked for DigitasLBi and AstraZeneca in their digital innovation unit. He has also worked for the Ordnance Survey, as Head of Mobile, where he built a team and launched the organisation’s first mobile applications, was managing director of a digital start up in the media space, and used to run the Press Association’s digital services. When not building new digital products, Chris sometimes writes children’s books.
Digital Content Manager
Simon is the content lead for the digital team. He's responsible for Citizens Advice’s digital content strategy, maintaining content quality, and ensuring user needs are met.
Simon has worked on producing digital content for the UK’s population for the last 8 years. He worked in Directgov and then the Government Digital Service where he was a content lead for the transition of 24 government departments onto GOV.UK. For the last 2 years Simon was the lead for the GOV.UK team responsible for supporting the wider government content design community, including reviewing quality of content produced by government departments and agencies.
Simon loves helping to build self-organising teams that are dedicated to creating content in innovative ways for those who most need advice.
Delivery Manager - Content
Andrea is Delivery Manager for the content design team. Before joining the team Andrea worked as a Project Manager in the Citizens Advice Information Services team for 7 years.
Prior to Citizens Advice Andrea worked in a variety of market research organisations in IT.
Delivery Manager - Digital
Alastair is working with the Citizens Advice team on Digital Delivery, immersed in the space where awesome web development, lucid user needs and ambitious client requirements converge. He believes exceptional advice can be blended with intuitive digital tools - and they should be pain-free, punchy and delightful to use.
Alastair previously worked at tech start-up Red Badger and spent 9 years at the BBC working in commissioning and product management. He has worked with a range of clients and partners including fortnumandmason.com on their award-winning new e-commerce site, and with the BBC, MadeByPi, Atos, OpenText and Siemens on various products and services including BBC Commissioning, BBC Pitch and BBC Online.
Al is crazy about vinyl records, mango chutneys, original gig-poster art, antique radios that still do long-wave and loads of tech that doesn't.
User Experience Researcher
Paul is passionate about helping teams to understand the needs and problems of their users. Through this he aims to improve the overall product or service.
Paul believes that user research and user-centered design is most fruitful when done in collaboration with the rest of the team. Therefore he works closely product managers, interaction designers and content designers.
Before Citizens Advice, Paul worked at Government Digital Service on the GOV.UK Verify project - the new way for people to prove their identity online.
Digital Data Scientist
Ian helps the digital team with all things data. He started his career in IT and moved to take on a little lotus notes development. After that Ian moved into sales analysis for a major IT reseller which was his first taste of using data to inform decisions and drive behaviours. This lead nicely to the role of Data Analyst at Citizens Advice 5 years ago which he then developed into a wider role of MI Officer.
Ashley joined Citizens Advice as a campaigns officer in 2012. In 2014 she was seconded to the digital team to support their user experience research work, including managing the recruitment of research participants.
Ashley now manages our engagement with the network of local Citizens Advice, so that the new advice content and case management system meet the needs of our users.
Before working for Citizens Advice she mainly worked in a range of policy, public affairs and campaigns roles at the NSPCC.
Lizzy is a Content Designer in the Content Team. She has worked at Citizens Advice for 3 years as a writer for Adviceguide and Advisernet. Prior to that, she worked with organisations in the higher education and charity sectors, producing web content and print resources. She also has some experience in print journalism.
Hannah is a Content Designer in the Content Team. She joined Citizens Advice in 2011 as a project writer, and works from home in Cheshire. Hannah has worked as a print journalist, a press officer and a communications manager. Most recently before joining Citizens Advice, she led digital communications for regional voluntary sector networks and managed the media activities of several Church of England bishops.
Sarah joined Citizens Advice from the Government Digital Service, where she was a content designer in the GOV.UK transition team.
She began her career in marketing before moving to public sector communications and later specialising in digital content. Her previous work includes roles at the Department of Health, the Institute for Government, RICS and the London boroughs of Lewisham and Newham.
Annie is a Content Designer in the Content Team. She joined Citizens Advice after qualifying as a solicitor. She has a background in law and publishing and is experienced in making complex legislation and other primary information sources accessible to a wide range of audiences including the general public and specialist advisers.
Emily is a Content Designer in the Digital Team. She joined Citizens Advice following four years at Which?, working across marketing, customer experience and content production.
She's passionate about designing content that helps people understand complex issues, and empowers them to take action.
Jane joined the digital team in November 2015 as a Content Designer. She was previously the Website Editor for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and most recently worked on the content for the new website for Breast Cancer Now, the charity formed from Breakthrough's merger with Breast Cancer Campaign.
Before that, Jane was a Digital Content Manager at the BBC, responsible for writing, editing and publishing content on the Media Centre website.
Karl is a hybrid digital designer, meaning he helps the digital team build front-end functionality as well as making things look and feel awesome. With a keen eye for usability, he’s been designing for the web for over 10 years and has a gained a wide skill set, designing in many sectors including; technology, experience, property and finance.
Kal joined Citizens Advice as UX Lead for Casebook, designing the end to end experience for the new case management system.
He brings 20 years experience of fighting the users’ corner; making the complex simple, designing delightful experiences and building minimum lovable products. He has worked worked on every product imaginable - across all business sectors including finance, banking, retail, omnichannel commerce, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, aviation, telecoms, and start-ups.

Front End Developer
David joined Citizens Advice as a Front End developer for the Casebook team. He has more than 7 years experience working on web projects from startups to corporations across the non profit, recruitment and finance sectors for clients in the UK and US. Prior to joining Citizens Advice, David worked for a global recruitment brand building web applications.
Alec has spent a decade as an editor and copywriter, online and off. He's previously worked in publishing, content marketing and the civil service.
Vanessa has worked across the private, public and charitable sectors as a digital content specialist. Over the past 8 years she's been content or channel lead at Shelter, MS Society, Sainsbury's and Burberry among others.
When not blogging about copywriting and user-centred design, Vanessa writes poetry and short stories.
Al has been writing digital content for 12 years. He started out in 2004 on London borough websites islington.gov.uk and lambeth.gov.uk, before moving on to websites for high street brands like Vodafone. He’s spent the last 2 years working as a content designer for GOV.UK, writing mainly about personal tax.
Before stumbling into digital content, Al was a music teacher, PR exec and journalist.
Senior Ruby Developer
Yee joined as one of the senior software engineers on the Casebook development team. He brings close to a decade of experience working in various tech startups including Globrix (Zoopla), HouseTrip and AOL.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton and learning languages, both natural and programming kinds.
Rob joined Citizens Advice as a software developer working in the Casebook team, building the new case management system. Rob brings many years experience building customer facing and internal web applications across public and private sectors for companies such as Ordnance Survey and HomeServe Alliance.
Tomasz joined Citizens Advice as a Database Architect for the Casebook team. He brings more than 10 years of experience of managing, developing, optimizing and migrating databases, mostly focused on MySQL (Percona), but also Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, CouchBase and PostgreSQL.
Tomasz previously worked for online businesses including Nektan, AIMIA and the Eventa Group, where high availability and performance are key objectives. He's passionate about automation (mostly in bash) as well as data normalization to meet efficiency and consistency needs at the right point.
In his spare time Tomasz is into exploring the UK by bicycle and on the road, 40,000 miles and counting so far.
Senior Automation Test Analyst
Venkata joined Citizens Advice as a senior automation test analyst working in the Casebook team, building the Automation Framework. Venkata brings many years experience building automation frameworks using different tools such as selenium, ruby, java, cucumber, capybara and Jmeter across media, travel and health sectors for companies such as Virgin, Stagecoach and Telegraph.
Daniel joined Citizens Advice 10 years ago originally as a tester for the then new information system (AdviserNet). Since then he has worked as a business analyst and a developer building, enhancing and maintaining the Citizens Advice websites.
Most recently he worked with the Citizens Advice digital team to build the latest Citizens Advice website. Daniel is now moving to the Casebook team to help build the organisation's next generation case management system, Casebook.
Assistant Content Designer
Simon joined the team as an Assistant Content Designer in 2017.
Simon previously worked in digital publishing, and has experience in product development and branding. Before joining Citizens Advice he helped design and deliver the Microbiology Society’s online content platform.
He has a particular interest in understanding the ways that people interact with content, and is enthusiastic about the power of user-centered design to solve everyday problems.
Linda joined Citizens Advice as a content designer in January 2017. She'd been freelancing for several years, including 18 months as a content designer on GOV.UK and content lead on a major public sector project for PwC (PriceWaterhouse Cooper).
Before that, Linda had worked in a number of senior editorial roles, including deputy editor of The Guardian's Society website, managing editor for the Department of Health and launch editor of CommunityCare.co.uk (RBI Ltd).
Her background is health and social care journalism.
Assistant Content Designer
Zarlashta joined the team as an Assistant Content Designer in 2017. She has previous experience of Citizens Advice, having worked in a local office for several years.
Most recently, she worked at Association of Colleges, delivering two of the major awards events in the further education sector as well as leading on social media and digital content for the organisation’s Charitable Trust.
Rebecca managed part of the Citizens Advice intranet for several years before moving to the digital team where she now designs advice content as well. Before coming to Citizens Advice she worked on a university website
